Development is difficult, especially for those who are unsure of the journey they want to take on, or the route that they need to follow. However there are some key principles that can help you develop, and if you can remain fairly consistent to these principles, you will give yourself the greatest opportunity to aid your development
Self-Awareness
This is probably the most important are of personal development, the ability to understand your own strengths but also to be able to recognize the flaws within your personality, your upbringing and your coaching ability, If you do not know yourself, how can you develop yourself?
First of all it maybe important to think of the key relationships you have and do not have, explore the avenues you do not have, and question why you can't make these relationships, then look at the relationships you do have with people and try and work out why you have made these strong bonds, make action plans to try and bridge the gaps where you do not have strong relationships and become more self-aware of developing these relationships.
Self-awareness also stretches in to your coaching ability, don't be afraid to self-critique, use video analysis to watch yourself back, understand the areas you think you did well, recognize the areas you feel could do with more support, Ask others for their opinions, not just those above you in coaching and life experience rank, but those who work for you, those who have no experience in coaching, don't be afraid to explore avenues of self-development.
Listening
Listening is an important skill, but how we develop those skills, and those communications is key. How many of us have conversations where we sit on the edge, waiting for the recipient to finish their sentence, so you can give them your reply you have been mulling over for the last 3 minutes. Is this benefiting you in a way where you can learn, or benefiting you in a way where you can boast your knowledge?
Key to listening is listening to hear, this sounds a very simple task, but communication is an opportunity for development at every level, listening to the person you are exchanging words with, understanding their words, and trying to gain a further understanding as to why they believe in what they are explaining, helping you to understand their points and broadening your understanding.
Working for the future
As too many of us know, as life goes by, so does opportunity, and life becomes more difficult, extra responsibilities and extra home-life pressures. Whilst you have the opportunity as a younger, or more flexible coach, take advantage of opportunities, coach the u6, u9, u14 and u18, be a person who is not above any role, ask to watch a senior coach at any level, don't be afraid to work internationally , or at grass roots or even at a different level than you are used to, coaching experience provides you with a different challenge every day, the more days you can expose yourself to the greater opportunity to push yourself in to the unknown and expose yourself to personal development.
Self-Investment
Don't be afraid as a coach to invest your money and your time back in to yourself, if this Is Coaching Badges, Educational Courses, or even Coaching Books or resources, don't be afraid to invest in something that can help develop you, can it give you an avenue a competitor hasn't got, any potentially provide you with an advantage, an extra opportunity to learn and an extra opprtintiy to Develop.
Staying Balanced
Staying balanced? What does this mean. In coaching we see new ideas, new strategies the reinvention of an old invention etc etc, although dipping your toe in to these areas and trying to understand them is key to being a forward thinking individual, it is also important to gain a set of principles and a way of thinking for yourself, this does not mean a complete philosophy, but simply a set of guide lines that define you as a person, it is then important that you stay balanced in your approach from there on out, remaining fairly consistent to those principles and always willing to try new idea, but never willing to rip up the book and move from one side to the other like a consistently moving pendulum,
